Rock Star Birthday Party Games
The great thing about rock star birthday parties is that chances are you won’t need to draw out long lists of games to play because most kids love to play just a handful of music games over and over again. If you’re a high-tech junkie, you’ll most likely own or have access to video game systems, giant screen televisions or projectors, home theatre systems, karaoke machines, and many other audio and visual equipment that will definitely come in handy for your child’s rockin’ party! Be sure to give out Rock star trophies for the winners. Rock Band or Guitar Hero - If you’ve got an Xbox, Playstation, or Wii, you’ll almost inevitably have a copy of one of these music favorites. Hook it up to your big screen or projector, set up a fog machine and some strobe lights for your very own Rock Star Video Game! Split the party kids (and you may even have a few adults who will be dying to play) into groups that match the number of guitars, drums, and/or microphones you have for your gaming system. Keep points but make sure you ask their skill level so your party won’t be overrun by Rock Band junkies who seem to show off and leave everyone else in the dust. Force them to play at hard or expert levels and give those smaller kids the easy settings. Tell them you’ll add points for super stellar dance moves while they rock it to add a little extra flavor. Karaoke - so you’re kid doesn’t own a video game system...big deal. Ask around and buy, rent or borrow a karaoke machine. Grab some of your birthday boy or girls favorite rock-n-roll favorites as well as some more popular music and let the party games begin. Karaoke can keep your party rocking for hours, but you’ll need to wrap it up eventually, so have an exit strategy ready unless you choose to have your games after the cake, food, and gifts. If you have a little trouble gathering the things you need for video game and karaoke games, then have a “Name that Tune” game. All you’ll need is a CD player or MP3 player with some Rock-N-Roll favorites that your children would know. If you have time before the party, create some short sound clips (about 3 to 5 seconds long) and string them together on windows movie maker (PC) or on your Mac. Give each of your guests a piece of paper and tell them to list either the name of the song or the name of the band that plays the songs on your string. Play the string at least three times so everyone gets to hear it. Give points for each one they can name. If your children have trouble naming the songs or the artists, play short samples and see if they can sing the next phrase in the song.
Rock Star Birthday Party Cake Ideas

This Cool Rock Star Cake made by Theresa in Pearland, Texas for her "Little Rockstar" Adriana!
Most rock start birthday cakes will probably contain some black somewhere on the cake. Even if you have a girl, she will probably still want pink and black or silver and black or some other combination of colors like that. If you have some creativity or can find a really rockin’ cake online or at your local store, your cake can actually look pretty cool. A cake in the shape of an electric guitar, or I’ve also seen cake artists that can create a zombie cake that looks pretty ghoulish yet was completely edible. Every bone fragment, piece of brain and eyeball was actually a deliciously bloody delicacy made from fondant, frosting, or other edible. So while this is not a zombie party, you get the idea. You can totally rock out your birthday cake.
